Where it came from
Updated
The hug your younger self AI trend spread on Instagram in September 2025. People gave Google’s Gemini a recent photo and a childhood photo and asked its image model, Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, nicknamed Nano Banana (announced by Google on August 26, 2025), for one picture of the adult holding the child. Storyboard18 called it Instagram’s latest viral AI trend on September 16, 2025, with Polaroid-style results and a sample prompt asking for white curtains. By late September public figures joined in: Gulf News reported on the Indian MP Shashi Tharoor hugging his 22-year-old self.
Those were still pictures. Here the same idea moves. The whole clip plays inside a white-framed Polaroid instant photo, in a bright room in front of sheer white curtains. You and your younger self stand side by side, turn to each other and share a long, tender hug, eyes closed and smiling, then look at the camera together, in the soft, faded colors of instant film, to a soft piano and music-box melody.
It is an imagined moment, not a memory: the faces follow your two photos, and the hug never happened. RapVideo is not affiliated with Polaroid, Google or anyone behind the hug your younger self AI trend.
Many people look for a prompt to paste into Gemini or ChatGPT, asking for a Polaroid of me hugging my younger self with the faces left unchanged. That makes a still picture. Here the frame, the curtains, the light and the hug are already written in, each face, hairstyle and outfit is kept from your photos, and you get a moving clip.
How to do it
A clear, recent photo of your face and shoulders, then a childhood photo as the second person. Photograph an old print in daylight first.
It is already picked, so there is no prompt to write.
Tap Make the effect. The provider estimates up to about 5 minutes; then download the MP4 and post it.

Tips
A sharp face matters more than a perfect photo. In a group photo, crop to you.
Daylight, the print flat on a table, straight from above, no flash. Crop to face and shoulders.
Two upper-body photos with faces about the same size blend most easily.
Use childhood photos of yourself, not of someone else.
We have not yet tested childhood photos or old scans with this effect, so we cannot show a result or promise how close it gets. The tips here are advice. RapVideo does not restore photos.
Prefer it without the frame? The AI hug generator uses the plain Hug: the two of you in soft daylight, turning to each other, with no curtains and no film colors. Polaroid Hug is the trend look. For one more hug with a parent or grandparent who has passed away, see Memorial Hug; to bring one old photo to life, animate old photos; for everything else, AI video effects.
The clip has its own music-box melody. To post your hug your younger self AI trend clip with a trending song, add the official sound in TikTok or Instagram when you post; no song is put inside the clip.
One thing to know first: TikTok’s Community Guidelines count everyone under 18 as a private person and do not allow AI content that uses a private person’s likeness without consent. Your own childhood face is yours to share; someone else’s child is not. Turn on TikTok’s AI-generated content label when you post.

A photo trend from September 2025: people put their adult self next to their childhood self in one AI picture, the two hugging, often styled as a faded Polaroid. Here the same look becomes a short video.
Prompts vary, but most ask for a Polaroid-style photo of me hugging my younger self, white curtains behind, faces unchanged. Here you type nothing: it is all written into the effect.
Photograph the print with your phone in daylight, flat on a table, without flash or glare, and crop it to the face and shoulders. Use the cleanest copy you have.
Yes. Pick Hug instead and the two of you hug in soft daylight, with no instant photo around you.
Yes, it works with any two people, such as a parent or a friend, with their permission. For someone who has passed away, Memorial Hug is the gentler choice.
No. It is an imagined scene made from your two photos; the faces follow the photos, but the hug never happened.
