Does TikTok Allow AI Videos? Labels and Rules for 2026
Yes, TikTok allows AI videos. Its Community Guidelines say it welcomes creativity from generative AI, but creators must label AI-generated or significantly edited content that shows realistic-looking people or scenes. Unlabeled content may be removed, restricted or labeled by TikTok, and some AI content is not allowed even with a label, including using the likeness of a private person without their consent.

TikTok rules
Does TikTok allow AI videos?
Yes, labeled.
- Label it
- Get a yes
- No famous faces
To label a video in the app: before posting, tap More options, turn on AI-generated content, then tap Post. TikTok says the label does not affect your video’s distribution, and you cannot remove it after posting. Everything below is from TikTok’s own pages, checked on October 15, 2026.
What TikTok requires
TikTok’s Community Guidelines define AI-generated content as any image, video or audio made or changed by AI. You must disclose it when it shows realistic-looking people or scenes, using TikTok’s AIGC label or your own clear caption, sticker or watermark. The guidelines give examples that need disclosure even when nothing harmful is going on:
- A face is replaced with someone else’s.
- AI makes it look like someone said something they did not.
- A background, object or person is added or removed in a misleading way.
- AI audio mimics the voice of a real person.
No disclosure is needed for small edits like color correction or cropping, for clearly artistic styles such as anime, or for generic text-to-speech that is not a recognizable voice. An AI video of you and a friend rapping or singing looks realistic, so label it.
How to turn on the AI-generated label
| Where | Steps |
|---|---|
| TikTok app | Before posting, tap More options, turn on AI-generated content, tap Post |
| Computer | Click Upload, select the video, click See more, turn on AI-generated content, click Post |
These are the steps on TikTok’s AI-generated content page. The post then shows "Creator labeled as AI-generated." Videos made only with TikTok’s own effects do not need it, because TikTok shows the effect name instead.
What is not allowed, even with a label
- Using the likeness of private figures without consent. TikTok counts everyone under 18 and every adult who is not a public figure as a private figure.
- Sexualized, fetishized or victimizing depictions, and AI likenesses made to bully or harass.
- Content that misleads about matters of public importance: fake news sources, fake crisis events, a public figure degraded, linked to crimes, endorsing products or taking political stances they never took.
- Anything else the guidelines ban, such as impersonation or hate speech, AI-made or not.
In practice: put a friend in a video only with their yes, and leave celebrities and politicians out. Realistic content not yet confirmed as AI that could mislead, or harm a private person, can also be kept off the For You feed.
Does the AI label hurt views?
TikTok says adding the label will not affect the distribution of your video. That holds for content that follows the guidelines; the label does not protect a video that breaks them, and TikTok says using it to deceive viewers breaks its terms. We have no data of our own on reach with and without the label.
When TikTok labels your video for you
TikTok may add its own "AI-generated" label to content it identifies as made or significantly edited with AI, for example when you use TikTok AI effects. Since May 2024 it also reads Content Credentials (C2PA metadata) that some AI tools attach to their files, and labels those uploads automatically. A video without that metadata is not labeled this way, which is one more reason to turn the label on yourself. TikTok first required labels on realistic AI content in 2023, when it launched the creator label.
Before you post an AI trend video
- Check that everyone in it said yes. TikTok counts everyone under 18 as a private figure, so take extra care with children.
- Turn on AI-generated content before posting.
- Leave out famous faces, and do not make anyone say or endorse something they did not.
- Pick the sound: our Burning Bridges clips already carry the song; for others, how to do the AI trend on TikTok shows the sound picker.
