The short version

What an AI tribute video is made of

Updated

An AI tribute video is a short, quiet clip made from photos of someone who has passed away: a mother, a father, a grandparent, a partner, a friend. To make an AI tribute video here you pick from three effects, each with its scene, movement and music already written. You bring the photos; the effect does the rest.

Most people start with Memorial Hug: their photo and yours become a scene in a quiet garden, where you walk slowly closer, hold each other, then turn to the camera with a smile. Bring to Life animates their portrait on its own. Slow Dance is for two people dancing, like the father-daughter dance at a wedding they could not attend. Whichever you choose, it is an imagined moment, not a recording.

Is there a prompt to write?

No. People search for an AI tribute video prompt because most AI video tools open on an empty text box. Here the scene, the light and the music are written into each effect, worded to stay calm and kind. For a different moment, choose a different effect.

Step by step

Making each tribute clip

  1. Add their photo, then yours

A clear photo of the loved one who passed, face and shoulders if you can, then a recent photo of you. A phone photo of an old print works, as does a photo of you together.

Photos

Which photo of them to use

01

The photo that looks like them

A face the family knows at once matters more than a sharp, perfect photo.

02

A clear face

A portrait or head-and-shoulders shot. Avoid sunglasses, low hats and tiny faces in group photos.

03

Matching framing

For the hug, two upper-body shots with faces about the same size; for Slow Dance, full length, since it shows both people head to toe.

04

A second try

If the first result does not feel right, try another photo of them. A failed render is never charged.

No soundtrack has voices or lyrics; the model writes each for the clip.

Photographing an old print at home

  1. Take the print out of its frame or album sleeve, so no glass reflects.
  2. Lay it flat on a table near a window and shoot straight down in daylight, no flash. Tilt it a little if you see glare.
  3. Crop away the table and border so their face fills more of the frame; in a group photo, crop to that person.
  4. Upload it as JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC, up to 25 MB.

We have not yet tested faded, scratched or black-and-white scans on these effects, so these are tips, not promises. RapVideo does not restore or colorize photos. The hug and the dance ask for natural full color, so the model guesses colors for a black-and-white face; Bring to Life keeps the original colors and grain.

Building a longer memorial video for a service

  1. Make a few clips: a portrait that smiles, then a hug with each child or grandchild.
  2. Join them in your phone’s video editor, such as iMovie or CapCut, with favorite stills between them.
  3. Lower each clip’s piano and lay a single song under the whole slideshow, ideally a song they loved, from music you are allowed to use.
  4. Pick the shape before you render: 16:9 for a TV or projector, 9:16 for phones. All six (16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4 or 21:9) cost the same.
  5. Keep it brief: one moving moment among stills often says more than many.

To make an AI tribute video clip longer, set the length in Video settings: 5, 8, 10, 12 or 15 seconds on Seedance 2.0 Mini; 10 seconds at 720p is 8 credits. The MP4 plays on any phone, laptop or TV, and nothing has to be installed.

Before you play it for the family

An AI tribute video shows an imagined moment: the faces follow your photos, while the embrace and the smile are made up. Many families find that comforting; some relatives find it hard, especially soon after a loss. Show it privately first and ask before you post it or play it at a service. Use pictures of your own family, or make it with the family’s blessing, never with public figures. Uploaded photos are deleted 7 days after the render and are never used to train AI models; the finished video stays in My videos until you delete it.

More pages for remembering

The AI hug with a deceased loved one page goes deeper into that moment, and animate old photos into a single portrait that comes alive. Hug your younger self puts you and your childhood photo in a Polaroid. Every effect is on AI video effects.

Questions

What families ask about tribute clips

Still stuck? Contact us or see pricing.

What is the simplest way to make an AI tribute video?

Add a clear photo of the loved one who passed and a photo of yourself, keep Memorial Hug selected and tap Make the effect. In a few minutes you get a short scene of the two of you in a gentle hug, ready to keep or show at a memorial.

Do I need to write a prompt?

No. The garden light, the slow walk closer, the embrace, the smile and the piano are already written into the effect. You only add photos, so there is nothing to type or get wrong.

Can I use an old print of them?

Yes. Photograph it flat in daylight, without flash or glare, and crop to the face and shoulders. We have not tested faded or black-and-white scans yet, and RapVideo does not restore photos, so use the cleanest copy you have.

I only have their photo, not one of me. What can I make?

Choose Bring to Life. They blink, breathe, smile and look at the camera, keeping the face, clothes, pose and setting of the photo.

How do I put together a memorial video for a funeral?

Make a few short clips, such as a portrait that smiles and a hug with each of their children. Join them with stills in a phone editor, add a song they loved, and render in 16:9 for a TV or projector.

Is it really them in the clip?

No. The faces follow your photos, but the movement and the moment are made up. Many families keep it as a tribute; it does not replace real recordings, and it is fine to decide it is not for you.

Can I add a song or their name to the memorial video?

Not inside the effect, which has its own soft piano and no text. After you download, add a song you are allowed to use, a name or dates in a phone editor.

How long is each clip and what does it cost?

5 seconds at 720p on Seedance 2.0 Mini is 4 credits, with one photo or two; 10 seconds is 8. Longer or sharper clips cost more. No free trial: packs start at 10 credits for $9.99 and never expire. A failed render is never charged; a finished clip is, even if it does not feel right.
