Does Instagram Allow AI Videos? The AI Label Explained
Yes, Instagram allows AI videos. Meta requires you to label content that has photorealistic video or realistic-sounding audio that was digitally generated or altered, including with AI, and says there may be penalties if you do not. An AI video of you and a friend rapping is realistic video with AI vocals, so it needs the label.

Instagram rules
Does Instagram allow AI videos?
Yes, labeled.
- Add AI label
- Get a yes
- No famous faces
To label a Reel: create the reel, then turn on the toggle next to Add AI label before you share it. Instagram may also add an AI info label by itself when a file carries industry-standard AI signals. Everything below is from Meta’s own help pages, checked on October 19, 2026.
What Meta requires
Meta’s Label AI content on Instagram page says you must label photorealistic video or realistic-sounding audio that was digitally generated or altered. It gives examples that need a label:
- A realistic-looking video of people, such as a crowd at an outdoor market.
- A song made with AI-generated vocals.
- A reel narrated with a realistic AI voiceover.
- An audio file of two people talking.
A cartoon-style video does not need one, and Meta does not require you to label AI images, though it may label them anyway when its systems detect AI. An AI rap video made from your photos looks and sounds real, so turn the label on.
How to add the AI label on Instagram
| Where | Steps |
|---|---|
| Reel | Create a reel, tap the toggle next to Add AI label, share |
| Post | Create a post, tap the toggle next to Add AI label, share |
| Story | Add the video to your story, tap Options, tap Label AI, turn on Add AI label |
| Profile | Go to your profile, tap Edit profile, turn on AI-generated profile |
Meta says the feature is in the Instagram app on iPhone, iPad and Android, not on computers. Once a post is labeled, people see an AI content label on it. The profile label is meant for accounts whose content is AI-made; one AI Reel does not need it.
When Instagram labels your video for you
Some AI tools write an industry-standard signal into the files they make. Meta reads those signals and labels content created with AI automatically, third-party tools included; content only modified with AI shows the information in the post’s menu instead. Meta also notes that not all AI content carries the information needed to identify it. We have not checked whether our video files carry such a signal, so do not count on an automatic label: turn it on yourself. Meta explains its approach in the Transparency Center.
Automatic detection also catches real photos edited with AI tools, which is why creators complain about the label. The first clip explains the two kinds of AI disclosure; the second shows a retouched photo flagged as AI.

- TikTokA retouched photo flagged as AI@sociallyspeakingmedia
From TikTok, credited to the creators. Hover over a clip (or tap it) to play; tap a name to see the post.
Before you post an AI video on Instagram
- Get a yes from everyone in it. Use photos of people who agreed, and take extra care with anyone under 18.
- Leave out celebrities and politicians, and do not make anyone say something they did not.
- Make it vertical: pick 9:16 in the editor so it fills the Reels screen.
- Turn on Add AI label before you share.
The same checks work for TikTok, whose rules are in does TikTok allow AI videos. Easy videos to post right now: the Hotel Lobby AI booth for two and Bulin 47 AI from one photo.
